About

The universe within
For us, the universe within a chawan begins with what is set aside. Ornament. Symmetry. The comfort of a beautiful form. The clay is shaped by hand, then pared down further — until only the form remains.
One prepares the matcha. Another drinks it. The whisk moves, then is still. The chawan is lifted, turned a quarter, brought to the lips. In that small sequence, the whole of a relationship passes through the chawan — a small world without edge.
This is why we call it a room. Not a shop. Not a gallery. A room — a place where chawan, the people who drink from them, and the stillness between them are held together.

Curated in Tokyo.
CHAWAN ROOM is curated in Tokyo, by people who care about the chawan more than the sale. We seek out pieces from ceramic regions across Japan — including Hagi, Bizen, Shigaraki, and Karatsu — bringing each piece, one at a time, to those abroad who are looking for it.
Every chawan we offer is one of one. Hand-shaped, hand-fired, signed by its maker. None is replaceable. If a piece speaks to you, you may reserve it before it leaves the room.
Find your one.
Each piece in the room is here for a reason. Some are still being chosen.
